Yesterday, one of our awesome patients/practice members told me they wanted their husband to come in for care. Of course I said I would be honored to help, she then replied “I think he is just intent on living with it.” He has had lower back pain for years and it has just become a part of his life. I hear that A LOT… Many times during a consultation at our office, I will ask a patient with neck pain if they have headaches and I get the response of “not too often, just normal ones, like once or twice per week.” There’s nothing “normal” about that. The sad truth is, the easiest way people deal with these aches and pains (A.K.A. WARNING SIGNS), is to reach for over-the-counter medication that helps cover-up the pain (WARNING SIGNS) and in the process effect the kidneys, liver and digestive system.
We are not supposed to live in pain. We were born to be healthy, vibrant beings. “Everyday” aches and pains don’t need to be a part of your life. Chiropractic care, Acupuncture, exercise, therapy, nutrition, these are all things that we MUST do in order to keep our bodies functioning the way they are supposed to. When we neglect to keep our bodies healthy, these “aches and pains” come to the surface as a signal that something (or many things) are wrong and we need to do something about them. Pushing them to the back burner and leaving them be is only a sure way to start a house fire! Find out the cause of the pain (the dysfunction), relieve the pain, and then go on to restore FUNCTION. Pain relief is the beginning (a very important beginning), but restoring optimal function is the GOAL.
Don’t ignore the signals, let your body tell you things and then LISTEN. We must be proactive in our health. Chiropractic is a vital wheel in the cog of health and if you haven’t been checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic… the wheels might just fall off.
