Did you know Chiropractic care can boost the immune system? Acupuncture also has been shown to help fight off colds, boost immunity and improve overall health! I see patients everyday that fight off sickness faster through care, but I’m not just asking you to trust me, trust the research. Chiropractic actually became quite popular during the flu pandemic of 1918, and it wasn’t because of the improvement in the patient’s back pain! Patients under chiropractic care had a much lower mortality rate than those under traditional medical care. In New York, the instance of death for those under chiropractic care was about 25 cases per 10,000. Those numbers climbed to 950 deaths out of 10,000 cases for those patients receiving traditional medical care. I know these numbers can be construed many ways. For example, maybe the patients that were under medical care were already “worse off” or further effected by the disease. We don’t know the exact cases, but the fact remains chiropractic patients had boosted immunity!
A study in the 1970s further demonstrates chiropractic’s benefit on immnity. Dr Pero, chief of cancer prevention at the Preventative Medicine Institute in New York, conducted a 3 year study on 107 chiropractic patients. The chiropractic patients were found to have a 200% greater immune competence than those who did not receive chiropractic care. Another study in 1994, conducted through the Sid Williams Research Center, found that chiropractic care boosted immune cells. A group of HIV positive patients were adjusted over a six-month period. At the end of the 6 months, these patients were found to have a 46% increase in CD4 cells (these cells are VERY important in a properly functioning immune system). The control group (who didn’t get adjusted) had a DECREASE in CD4 cells.
In my office, when we combine chiropractic care and acupuncture, the results speak for themselves. Our patients tend to feel better of course, but also live better! Below is a short video of me adjusting my son, Payton who was a bit under the weather. He woke up the next morning (today) ready to head to school and even participated in soccer practice last night! I love what I do and I am blessed to be a part of this profession!
